The Green Spine, Chirnside Park
Melbourne Design Award, 2011
A green gateway for the Shire of Yarra Ranges along the Maroondah Highway, with a shared path named the Spirit of Barak Trail after Wurundjeri leader William Barak. Runoff from the highway is treated in swales, raingardens and ephemeral wetlands along the path before it reaches Brushy Creek, with support and funding from Melbourne Water. ASPECT Studios led the design, and Jamie worked on the civil engineering and water sensitive urban design while at Storm Consulting. See how it is performing more than ten years on.
Tanderrum Way Streetscape, Broadmeadows

Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Urban Design Award, 2010
Built as the Main Street Extension for Hume City Council, this new street in the Broadmeadows activity centre turned conventional road design on its head. Instead of a raised crown shedding water to kerbs on both sides, the road has an inverted crown that brings stormwater to the centre. The central median is one long bioretention system, surfaced with permeable pavers so it doubles as a pedestrian refuge, and footpaths drain to the street trees for passive watering. The road still carries the 1 in 100 year flow down its centre. Jamie’s project while at Storm Consulting, working with Outlines Landscape Architecture and Council, with funding from Melbourne Water’s Living Rivers program.
City of Stonnington Depot, Malvern
Stormwater Victoria Merit Award of Excellence, Urban Re-development, 2009
A new council depot replacing a century-old facility, draining to Gardiners Creek and the Yarra. Rain tanks, raingardens and permeable pavements treat runoff from the 1.5 hectare site, and a truck wash system recycles most of the water used to wash down the garbage fleet. Jamie’s project while at Storm Consulting, with the sustainable water components funded through Melbourne Water’s Living Rivers program.
Dorset Square Car Park, Boronia
Stormwater Victoria Award of Excellence, Urban Re-development, 2009
Knox City Council wanted more from this shopping centre car park than a re-sheet and new line marking. It flooded in winter when litter blocked the pits, baked in summer, and was unsafe for pedestrians. Removing the kerb and channel to create a shared zone meant water needed a new way into the drainage system. Permeable drainage now carries flow across the level surface to the pits, and interconnecting tree pits treat stormwater through their soil media while around 70 new trees shade the pavement. Jamie was part of the Storm Consulting team that designed it with Council.
Judging
Jamie was head judge for the 2026 Stormwater Victoria Awards for Excellence, and was a judge for the Australian Water Association’s Victorian awards in 2019.
